Chevron Australia Pty. Ltd.'s employees operating in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector have decided to suspend their plan to resume a strike and have thrown their support behind the enterprise agreements proposed by the company.

The development has triggered a strong response from Chevron, with the company denouncing the unions' position as unreasonable and disruptive.

Chevron Australia acknowledged the union's notice of strike resumption starting on October 19, expressing its belief that the strike is "unnecessary," given the company's ongoing efforts to engage the FWC in finalizing the Enterprise Agreements.

Workers voted to resume stoppages after unions accused the U.S. energy giant of failing to uphold commitments made during negotiations.

An Australian union alliance has called off strikes at Chevron's two major liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in the country, marking a resolution to disputes that posed a threat to around 7% of global LNG supplies.

The affected facilities, Wheatstone and Gorgon, are responsible for approximately 7% of the world's LNG supply.

Despite the fault and ongoing strikes by workers, scheduled LNG deliveries remained unaffected.

The strike began after intervention by Australia's Fair Work Commission failed to reach an agreement, despite multiple rounds of negotiations.

This move represents a significant escalation in the ongoing disputes over pay and working conditions.

The rejection came from almost all of the 461 workers at the Gorgon and Wheatstone downstream plants, following a similar defeat of the proposal at the Wheatstone platform last month, as reported by the Offshore Alliance, a union body.
