Chevron Australia Pty. Ltd.'s employees operating in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector have decided to suspend their plan to resume a strike and have thrown their support behind the enterprise agreements proposed by the company.
The workers, represented by the Offshore Alliance union, had initially planned to resume the strike on Thursday, citing alleged breaches of recommended employment terms by the Chevron Corp. subsidiary. However, the decision to suspend the strike was made after Chevron Australia agreed to an earlier Fair Work Commission (FWC) recommendation, which the union members ultimately endorsed.
The Offshore Alliance is now officially endorsing the draft enterprise agreements involving workers at Chevron Australia's Gorgon, Wheatstone Platform, and Wheatstone Downstream facilities. The agreements, spanning four years, outline the minimum employment conditions, including wages and other key terms.
In response to the development, a Chevron Australia spokesperson emphasized the company's commitment to finalizing the agreements based on the FWC's recommendations. Despite recent disputes and negotiations, Chevron Australia remains dedicated to achieving a mutually beneficial resolution with its workforce.
