Qatar has signed a deal worth around $20 billion with South Korean shipbuilders to help cement its position as the world’s largest producer of liquefied natural gas.

Gas produced from the offshore platforms in the UK North Sea is less carbon-intensive than LNG imported in the UK, the UK oil and gas regulator OGA said Tuesday.

The glut of natural gas could lead to more cancelled LNG exports in the next few months.

Natural gas has gone from being a by-product of oil production to a vital source of energy for transportation, industry, and heating.
