The inaugural journey of Silver Nova, an LNG-fueled cruise ship, has commenced, marking the first step in the innovative Nova class fleet by Monaco-based Silversea Cruises. Departing from Venice, Italy, on August 14, the ship embarks on a seven-day roundtrip voyage through the picturesque Adriatic region. The itinerary includes ports of call such as Piran in Slovenia, along with Croatian destinations including Zadar, Dubrovnik, Split, and Rovinj, as well as Kotor in Montenegro.
Once its maiden voyage concludes, Silver Nova will grace the Mediterranean throughout the summer season. In November, it will set sail for the Caribbean and South America. Notably, on January 4, 2024, the ship will embark on the monumental 71-day Grand Voyage South America.
Crafted by renowned German shipbuilder Meyer Werft, Silver Nova boasts a displacement of 54,700 tons and operates on liquefied natural gas (LNG), aligning with contemporary eco-conscious practices. Significantly, this ship is set to achieve an unprecedented feat in the cruise industry—local emission-free operation while docked—by utilizing fuel cells and batteries. This hybrid technology contributes to a remarkable 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per double suite in comparison to its predecessors.
With LNG as its primary fuel, Silver Nova showcases a hydrodynamic ship design, enhancing both efficiency and performance. Akin to a trailblazer, it paves the way for a new era of maritime sustainability.
The imminent arrival of Silver Ray, a sibling vessel to Silver Nova, is anticipated to grace the seas during the summer of 2024. As Silversea Cruises advances its fleet with environmentally conscious innovations, the journey toward greener and more responsible cruising gains momentum.
