Greek Shipping Giants Expand Fleet with New Tankers and LNG Carriers
Greek shipping companies, Sea Pioneer, Dynacom, and Evalend Shipping, are on a significant buying spree, expanding their fleets with new vessels, including tankers and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
Sea Pioneer: Sea Pioneer has ordered two firm and two optional MR tankers with a capacity of 50,000 deadweight tons (dwt) each. The vessels were contracted with K Shipbuilding in South Korea, and delivery is scheduled for 2025. The company has not disclosed the financial details of the shipbuilding contract.
Dynacom: Dynacom has exercised options for four ice-class, scrubber-equipped tankers with a capacity of 115,000 dwt each. The vessels will be constructed by Dalian Shipbuilding (DSIC) in China, with a unit price of $62 million. Delivery of these tankers is expected between 2025 and 2026. Dynacom has also entered into a shipbuilding contract with DSIC for two very large crude carriers (VLCCs) incorporating environmentally friendly features to comply with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III.
Evalend Shipping: Evalend Shipping has ordered two LNG carriers with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters (cbm) each. The LNG carriers are being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (Hyundai HI) in South Korea, with a unit cost of $262.7 million. Delivery of the LNG carriers is scheduled for 2028.
These orders underscore the robust activity and strategic investments by Greek shipowners in the maritime sector, reflecting their confidence in the future of shipping and the importance of modernizing and expanding fleets.
