Chevron has announced the full restoration of production at Train 3 of its Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Western Australia. The facility had experienced an "electrical incident" at a substation supplying power on October 31, leading to a temporary reduction in output to 80% of capacity. The incident did not impact domestic gas supply or the operations of the other two LNG production trains at Gorgon.
The Gorgon facility, located on Barrow Island, has three LNG trains with a combined annual capacity of 15.6 million metric tons. It plays a crucial role in supplying LNG to customers across Asia and provides domestic gas to the Western Australian market. The recent disruption in production was limited to Train 3, and Chevron has successfully resolved the issue to resume full production.
The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges in maintaining the reliability of critical infrastructure in the energy sector, and Chevron has demonstrated its ability to respond swiftly to address operational disruptions.
