Glenfarne Energy Transition has chosen Baker Hughes as the provider of advanced gas compression technology equipment for its forthcoming Texas LNG export terminal, slated for construction in the Port of Brownsville, Texas.
The order for gas technology equipment marks a key milestone in the collaboration between Glenfarne’s subsidiary, Texas LNG, and Baker Hughes. Additionally, Baker Hughes has entered into a framework agreement, demonstrating its strategic commitment to make a pre-Final Investment Decision (FID) investment in the late-stage development of the Texas LNG project.
Under the visionary "Green by Design" initiative, Texas LNG, with the support of Baker Hughes, aims to leverage locally sourced renewable energy to power the facility and propel the plant’s electric motors. This eco-friendly infrastructure is positioned to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, positioning Texas LNG as one of the most environmentally conscious liquefaction facilities globally.
Brendan Duval, CEO, and Founder of Glenfarne Energy Transition expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are pleased to be partnering with a world-class organization like Baker Hughes for this critical equipment.” Duval emphasized that Baker Hughes’ strategic commitment underscores the strength of Texas LNG as a fully permitted, late-stage infrastructure project.
Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman & CEO of Baker Hughes, highlighted the pivotal role of natural gas and LNG in the energy transition. He affirmed Baker Hughes' dedication to supporting Texas LNG with leading technologies and a robust partnership, leveraging decades of experience in the LNG sector.
Texas LNG, a four million tons per annum (mtpa) LNG export terminal, is on track to finalize project financing in 2024, with construction set to commence shortly thereafter. The order for gas technology equipment is anticipated to coincide with the financial close of the project, paving the way for the first LNG exports from Texas LNG, expected to be shipped in late 2027 or early 2028.
Samsung Engineering, with a minority equity interest, is playing a pivotal role in leading the delivery of the facility alongside Technip Energies USA, reinforcing the collaborative efforts to make Texas LNG a flagship project in the LNG landscape.
