China's Milestone Achievement: Inauguration of the Nation's Largest LNG Storage Tank
Marking a significant milestone in China's energy infrastructure development, the country's first domestically-produced LNG storage tank, boasting an impressive capacity of 270,000 cubic meters, was officially put into operation in Qingdao, Shandong Province, on Thursday.
The newly operational tank stands as the largest of its kind in China, substantially enhancing the supply capability in the northern regions of the country. With a diameter measuring 100.6 meters and a height of 55 meters, the storage tank's vast space is comparable to that of a domestic C919 passenger aircraft.
Wu Bin, the general manager of Qingdao LNG terminal, a subsidiary of Sinopec's LNG branch, emphasized the team's achievement in developing the LNG tank, with the utilization of domestic components reaching an impressive 95 percent. The successful operation of this advanced infrastructure has notably bolstered the local LNG supply capacity, now capable of catering to the winter demand of approximately 2.16 million households for a duration of five months.
The Qingdao LNG terminal serves as the solitary operational LNG terminal in Shandong Province, extending its reach to several neighboring provinces, including Jiangsu, Anhui, Hebei, and Henan. It serves as a critical LNG supply source for the northern regions of China, playing a pivotal role in ensuring stable and sufficient energy provisions for the area.
